6 Fun Ways To Announce Your Engagement

A recent and growing trend is doing something quirky, different, or even slightly extravagant to announce your engagement to the world. There are plenty of novel ways to give your announcement the edge and ensure people will remember it for years to come.

So, if you fancy doing something more than a standard Facebook post, here are 6 great ideas for inspiration:

1. Use Your Pet

Many couples have furry friends in their lives, and incorporating them into your engagement announcement is usually relatively easy. Etsy are full of cute creations such as customised chalk boards or printed signs that can be used in a photo with your pet so they can announce to the world on your behalf, “my humans are getting married!”

2. Take a “Subtle” Photo

If you’d prefer a more casual announcement, have your partner take a photo of you doing something “normal” such as drinking a mug of tea, or reading a book, while wearing your new sparkler. Post it on social media without a caption, and see how long it takes for people to catch on.

3. Wear It

Slogan clothing is super popular right now, so why not use it to your advantage? There are loads of places you can source tees, hoodies, or sweatshirts that say things like “Mr” and “Mrs”, “Fiancé” and “Fiancée”, or “Hubby” and “Wifey”. Get the tops on and take a great selfie.

4. Get Animated

If you’d rather not be photographed, contact a local graphic designer or animator to see if they can create a custom and bespoke cartoon version of you and your partner tying the knot. The bonus with this option is the imagery created can be used again for other purposes during your wedding, such as the invites or Thank You cards.

5. Boomf

A Boomf is a fantastic way to deliver a fun message. When the recipient opens the envelope, confetti flies out, and a cube pops out that has four images, one on each side. Use three pictures of you and your partner over the course of your relationship, with the last image being a recent one of you wearing your ring, or any one of the images suggested above, then send the Boomf to your loved ones, or send it to yourself so you can film it being opened and share it on social media as your announcement.

6. Be Traditional

An announcement in the local newspaper was once the way most engagements were made public, so you could opt to honour this tradition, before taking a photo of the announcement to share on social media. Both Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Daly used newspaper announcements for their engagements, and if it’s good enough for Sherlock…
