Get Inspired By These Amazing Celebrity Wedding Speeches
There are a variety of speeches to be made on your wedding day – from the Father of the Bride, to the Groom, and the Best Man to the Maid of Honour, and sometimes it can be a struggle to find inspiration. Everyone wants their speech to be original, and often humorous, but without being too long-winded and definitely not boring!
Getting that balance right can be tricky, so here are six of our favourite celebrity wedding speeches to give you some ideas:
1. Tom Fletcher
As a member of chart-topping boyband, McFly, it’s appropriate that this Groom decided to sing his wedding speech, and all to the tune of popular McFly tracks – Obviously, Room of the Third Floor, and Stargirl. Now viewed by over 19 million people on YouTube, it will go down in history as one of the most touching, and emotional, wedding speeches ever!
2. Taylor Swift
When Taylor Swift’s childhood best friend Brittany tied the knot, she asked the global superstar to be her Maid of Honour, and Taytay obliged. As a great song-writer, Taylor aced her Maid of Honour speech, with snippets including:
“He would chase her and pursue her through middle school, and junior high, and high school, and their paths would diverge and then come back together… It would be so magically unpredictable, but at the same time, so incredibly fates – just like the best love stories are.”
3. Mark Wright
After his wedding, Mark shared the touching video his brother Josh created for his Best Man’s speech. The video shows a montage of videos and pictures from their childhood, as well as some from more recent years. This idea can be quite easily replicated for your own wedding day using PowerPoint, or a selection of online and free movie maker software.
4. Julia Roberts
We’re cheating a little by including some wedding speeches “borrowed” from the movies. Who can forget the speech given by Julia’s character, Julianne Potter, when she acts as Best Woman at the wedding of her best friend, Michael, in My Best Friend’s Wedding?
5. Cameron Diaz
If you’re stuck and can’t find the right words to say, take inspiration from Maggie Feller, played by Cameron Diaz, in the 2005 movie In Her Shoes, who read a beautiful poem by E. E. Cummings at her sister’s wedding.
6. Hugh Grant
Hugh Grant makes a short, but moving speech, in the Oscar-nominated and iconic film, Four Weddings and a Funeral. Playing Charles, a committed bachelor who is startled to discover that he may actually have fallen in love, his tongue-in-cheek speech was both entertaining and touching.
