10 Top Skin Care Tips For Brides

By  |

Most of us are pretty clued-in when it comes to skincare, and we all have our daily routines, but in the run-up to your big day you may want to make that little bit more effort to make sure your skin is looking fresh, flawless, and blemish-free.

Here are our top tips:

1. Start Early
To get great skin, you have to put in the work. Going for a few facials in the weeks running up to your wedding might help, but to make sure your skin is in great condition, you should be looking at implementing a great skincare routine at least six months before the wedding day.

2. Book in for Facials
You will want to go for a professional facial every 4-6 weeks in the run-up to your wedding, with your last facial treatment being 1-2 weeks before your wedding day. Some people react to a facial by having a small breakout shortly after, others have a slight redness that lasts for a day or two, and some people don’t react at all. By starting your skincare routine early, you’ll know how your skin will react so you can schedule your treatments accordingly. But rest assured, nothing makes your skin look and feel as good as a professional deep-cleanse!

3. Stay Spot Free
We all suffer from pesky breakouts – whether it’s from stress, overindulging, or monthly hormones! Treat blemishes as soon as they appear, and definitely keep some spot cream to hand in the days before (and morning of) your big day, just in case. We recommend eléni BlemishLess Cream.  Not only does it smell great, but it really works!

4. Exfoliate
In between your professional facials, you’re going to want to do an at-home exfoliation at least once per week. The type of exfoliant you use will be dependent on your skin type, but Glam Glow Super Mud is an amazing treatment, loved by the stars, that is suitable for everyone.

5. Remove Your Makeup
Always remove your makeup before going to bed! Leaving product on your skin blocks your pores, and can cause breakouts of spots and blackheads.

6. Get Your Beauty Sleep
Rest and sleep are super important for clear skin, glossy hair, and strong nails, all things you’re going to want for your wedding day. The added pressure of wedding planning can have an adverse effect on all of these, so where you can – eat right, get some gentle exercise, and catch those zzz’s.

7. Drink Water
Reduce your alcohol intake in the run-up to your wedding day – alcohol dehydrates you, and can cause bloating as well as breakouts, so stock up on water instead.

8. Avoid Sunbeds
Best case scenario you end up with tan lines, worst case scenario you get burnt. PhotoShop can only do so much, so avoid sunbeds (which are so bad for you anyway!), and opt for a spray tan instead.

9. Don’t Try New Products
You shouldn’t try any new products for around one month before your wedding. This includes skincare, haircare, makeup, washing powder, and fabric softener. Basically anything that comes into contact with your skin. You could have an allergic reaction, and it can take it weeks to calm down.

10. Don’t Forget Your Body
It’s great to look after your facial skin so you are glowing on your wedding day, but don’t forget the rest of your body too. Whether you’re wearing a shorter dress, have your arms exposed, or just want to prep for the shorts and bathing suit on honeymoon – use a body brush in the shower to remove dead skin and help reduce the appearance of cellulite, get booked in for a wax a few days before your wedding, and make sure you’re using plenty of moisturiser. We love The Body Shop’s Body Butters – thick, creamy, and they smell amazing!
