Is it rude to ask for money as a wedding gift?

By  |

Receiving wedding presents can be just as tricky as giving them. On one hand there are things that you want, and things that you need but what if your taste differs completely to that of those around you.

Obviously no matter what gifts you receive, you will be very grateful, but what if your favourite aunt buys you a painting you absolutely detest?

Every time she visits you, she will ask where it is and why you haven’t hung it. Her feelings will be hurt or you’ll have to look at art you hate. There are worse things in life but on the whole you’d rather avoid the situation.

On the other hand you may already have everything you need and everything you receive just ends up being clutter.

What you could really do with if you’re honest, is a little extra cash. However, some people consider it extremely rude to ask for money as a wedding present, but for a new couple starting out, that’s more than likely what you need.

So what we want to know is, do you think it’s rude to ask for money as a wedding gift? Let us know in the poll below.
