7 Of The Worst Ideas From Celebrity Weddings

By  |

When celebrities get married, we pour over photographs in glossy magazines and check out articles online that focus on the intricate details of the Big Day – from the dress to the flowers, the transport to the venue – when a celebrity gets married, we want to know the details.

With their significant disposable income, access to world-class wedding planners, and designers for best friends, you would think their weddings would be like something out of a fairy-tale, right? Yet, sometimes, it’s less dream weddings and more weird and wacky.

Here are seven ideas from celeb weddings that we don’t recommend:

1. Katy Perry and Russell Brand take a theme too far

When this unique couple got married in a tiger reserve, they booked 21 camels, some elephants, and a few horses to accompany them for the procession. If you’re a lover of animals and nature, there are some great ways to incorporate the theme into your wedding day…without creating a zoo in the process.

2. Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy opt for original centre-pieces

Child-star Mary-Kate and her fashion designer French husband decided against floral arrangements as centre-pieces for their New York wedding, and instead opted for something much more original…bowls filled with cigarettes. It may not make for great photos, but I’m sure smokers at the nuptials appreciated the gesture.

3. Kate Moss and Jamie Hince have an unusual gift register

While mere mortals worry about asking for cash gifts, and take time to compile gift registers that include useful or thoughtful ideas for guests, Kate and Jamie opted for a more rock ‘n’ roll register that included 14 crystal ashtrays worth £240 each, crates of 2002 Louis Roederer Cristal champagne worth £1,833 each, and a £5,000 cutlery service. If you were a guest with a tighter budget though, they were considerate enough to include a rabbit-shaped jelly mould for £35, and tea strainers for just £12.95 each.

4. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West go for quirky speeches

At the reception, Kanye made a 20 minute long speech (did you expect anything less?), but it wasn’t all about thanking guests for attending, boasting over how beautiful his new bride looked, or a heartfelt piece about looking forward to their new life together. Kayne instead praised Kim for being “the perfect celebrity” and told the guests that “the Kardashians are an industry”. How romantic!

5. Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton go all out for their wedding meal

These country music stars got married in cowboy boots, which is a cute touch, but they took their country roots a little too far when guests enjoyed a wedding meal of venison…which the Bride shot and killed herself.

6. Victoria Adams and David Beckham give their wedding the royal treatment

As these two were once considered pop and sporting royalty, it should come as no surprise that they went a little OTT for their wedding day. The couple got married at the stunning Luttrellstown Castle in Ireland, which set the scene for Victoria wearing a crown when walking down the aisle, they both sat on thrones at the reception, and a purple flag embroidered with their initials was raised above the castle after their vows. That wasn’t quite enough for the couples’ ego though, as they also have nude sculptures of themselves as a cake topper. Tasty.

7. Mariah Carey and Tommy Mottola ensured her dress would go down in history

Over the years, Mariah has earned herself a reputation for being quite the diva, so that should go some way to explain why her wedding dress had a 27 foot train. Once you wrap your head around that, it’s also worth remembering that during her 1993 nuptials she had no less than 50 flower girls!
