Ladies, are you thinking about jumping on board an age-old tradition and popping the question yourself to your loved one this February 29th?
According to an old Irish legend/history, St Brigid struck a deal with St Patrick to allow women to propose to men every four years.
This is believed to have been introduced to balance the traditional roles of men and women in a similar way to how leap day balances the calendar.
Given that it is 2016, women are definitely capable of asking a man for his hand in marriage on any day of the year that she so wishes. However traditionally in Ireland, this right was reserved specifically for the leap year and February 29.
So given that 2016 is a leap year are you planning to take the bull by the horns? Or did you propose to your man in the last Leap Year of 2012? If so we’d love to hear about it.
