Mr & Mrs Mellon
Clear blue skies and sunshine blessed Tyrone couple Hayley and Paul Mellon as they tied the knot at a stunning country estate on Easter Monday.
Hayley from Omagh (née Mehaffey) was first drawn to Paul’s smile and cheeky personality, and after three years together, Paul popped the question during a trip of a lifetime to New York City.
Hayley explains that Paul took her to New York for her 30th birthday, and he proposed on the High Line. “Two days before we left New York, he proposed on The High Line! It was low key and not fussy – neither of us would be into anything big and dramatic!
He put his arm around me and presented an empty ring box. Paul had planned that we would pick a ring in New York but we decided to wait until we were home and just enjoy the rest of our visit. Paul had phoned my mum beforehand so there was a lot of excitement when I returned home. We had a big party with family when we got back.”
Hayley found her perfect gold ring with a prominent diamond and a cluster of diamonds around it in Lunn’s. The couple waited three months before starting to plan their big day, enjoying the excitement and celebrations of the engagement. When the planning did begin, the couple knew exactly what they wanted – something a little bit different
“I knew we wanted a relaxed feel wedding with pretty pastel colours and a vintage style. I just love peony flowers and eucalyptus,” explained Hayley. So with the planning well underway, Hayley turned her attention to finding the dress of her dreams.
“I went to two wedding dress shops and I got my dress in Indie Grace Bridal in Fintona. I just knew it was the one whenever I tried it on. The shop has the prettiest of dresses and I completely fell in love with mine.”
Hayley opted for a lace dress which was fitted and backless which ‘was comfortable too’ and the bride finished the look with stunning Prada bridal shoes.
The four bridesmaids donned simple but elegant pale pink dresses which were purchased from Stacees Dresses, while the men didn’t scrub up to badly either in their three piece suits from Bogart Menswear.
Flower girls Bella, Pippa and Rose looked like princesses in their white and gold dresses, while pageboy Jack stole the show and looked very dapper in his suit.
In a search for the perfect venue, Hayley and Paul who are both from Omagh, opted to leave Tyrone and travelled to County Meath for their special day. The night before the wedding, the couple and their guests stayed in a stunning Georgian House in Slane. “As we are from Omagh but getting married in Slane, we booked Collon House for both families.
The evening before the wedding Paul, myself, the two families and bridal party all went out together for meal and then enjoyed bubbly in the courtyard. It was a lovely evening and added to the whole experience.”
The couple woke up on their wedding morning to blistering heat and clear blue skies as the sun shone and blessed their big day. The pampering and getting ready began early and, while excited for the day, Hayley found herself to be ‘surprisingly calm.’ “We had the service in a wee church in Slane called St Patrick’s Church of Ireland.
I was excited for the day and was very calm on the morning of our wedding. The only time I nearly lost it was when I walked into the room dressed and Paul’s mum Cathy saw me. She hadn’t seen my dress so it was all quite emotional – I almost lost control but my mum rushed in with rescue remedy!
Leanne, my bridesmaid and best friend from school is also a hairdresser and styled my hair. I wanted to look like myself and loved my relaxed ponytail.
To be honest, walking up the aisle wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be.” While it was a day of happiness and smiles, Hayley took special steps to ensure that her late father was remembered. “Tied to my bouquet was a piece of cord from my Dad’s favourite coat along with a silver feather so he was with me on the day.”
Once the service was over, the bridal party travelled by limo to a stunning reception at Ballmagarvey Village. “Our venue was beautiful. It had a gorgeous courtyard with a real rustic feel. It also had fairy lights around the dining room which were stunning.
“We were so lucky with the weather – it was 23 degrees! Guests were able to sit back and enjoy the sunshine during the drinks reception, while a band played music before heading into the reception.
After the speeches and a delicious meal, the newly-weds cut their cake baked by Primrose Bakery. “Our wedding cake was a two tier naked cake with fresh flowers on top of it and it was beautiful.”
After all the traditional elements were done and dusted, it was time to party and the band Hype were on hand to ensure the guests danced the night away. “After the meal we had a sparkler exit and then the DJ introduced us onto the dancefloor. Our guests all gathered as we were cheered in,” explained Hayley. “Our band were brilliant. They did both – the band and DJ and we danced all night until 3am.
Our wedding was everything we dreamed of and more. It was really perfect. I would do it all over again and not change a thing. We would like to thank our families for making everything so perfect.”
