5 minutes with Muireann McDermott from The Hair & Beauty Quarter, Sligo winner of the 2016 Best Bridal Beauty Salon.
Muireann McDermott has been a beautician for over 15 years and has been just celebrated The Hair & Beauty Quarter’s 1-year anniversary. The salon is open 7 days a week and offers hair, beauty and make-up under one roof. The salon has worked with RTE and Irish TV as well as runway work in Dublin. They are also regulars on the local photoshoot and event scene.
North-West Brides meet the lovely Muireann at our award presentation morning and wanted to find out more about her business.
Q. Congratulations on the beauty side of the business winning Best Bridal Beauty Salon! How many beauticians are part of the business?
A. Elaine and myself (Muireann) look after the beauty, we have worked in the industry for many years both at home and abroad. We, as well as our receptionist are also Dermalogica experts.
Q. What beauty services do you provide?
A. We provide semi-permanent eyebrows, micro needling and facial peels. We also do specialised waxing, tinting, tanning, nails, dermalogica facials, make up, skin care lessons and make up classes.
Q. What are your opening hours?
A. We are open 7 days a week working late on Thursday and Fridays. Monday-Wednesday 10am-6pm, Thursday-Friday 8am-8pm, Saturday 8am-5pm and Sunday 10am-3pm. We also open outside these times by appointment.
Q. What are your top 3 tips for a bride in terms of her wedding day look?
1. Getting your skin into tip top condition is essential to give your skin that beautiful glow for your wedding day. Your skin care therapist can give you a really good skin care routine to follow at home and lots of great tips.
2. Gather images of make-up looks you like and bring them along for your trial. Make sure to let your make-up artist know what look you would like to achieve and most importantly what you do not like.
3. Make sure to outline a time plan with your make-up artist. This will ensure that you are all ready in plenty of time for photos. Ask your make-up artist if she is available to stay and touch you up before you leave for the ceremony.
