Roisin and Aaron loved every minute of beautiful Fintona wedding day
Exactly a decade after meeting each other, Aaron Blaney and Roisin Donnelly enjoyed “the best day of their lives” when they got married in a beautiful Autumnal wedding in their hometown.
The pair – who are both from Fintona – were wed on September 16, 2017 in a traditional ceremony performed by Canon Marron and Rev Woods in St Lawrence’s Church.
Their wedding reception took place in the Mill Park Hotel, Donegal – a venue which they chose due to its “homely feel, amazing food and helpful service, right from the start”.
Roisin, proprietor of RD Equestrian (which is a horse-riding school in Fintona) first met Aaron, a dairy farmer, through friends on a night out in September 2007.
They began dating three months later. “We were friends at first,” Roisin said. “He was just hilarious and kind, and it helped that he was very handsome.”
Eight years later, during a romantic holiday away with friends in Amsterdam, Aaron got down on one knee and proposed. “I was very emotional, but over the moon,” Roisin said. “He gave me a yellow gold ring, which I loved.”
After the special proposal, the pair got stuck into wedding planning straight away. “Initially I didn’t have an idea of what I wanted my wedding to look like,” Roisin admitted. “I just went with what I thought looked nice, and happily it all came together.”
Roisin first saw her dream wedding dress in a book, and simply had to try it on. Luckily Now and Forever Bridal, Belfast had the lace off-the-shoulder ball gown in stock, and Roisin bought the feminine number immediately.
“I loved it – I got it the first day I saw it,” Roisin said. “I thought it was the only time I’d get to wear a dress like that. The girls in the shop were also fabulous – they were so helpful.”
When Roisin’s big day finally arrived, she described feeling excited and relaxed in equal measure – but the Fintona woman fought back tears as she entered the church.
“Walking up the aisle to see Aaron was definitely the most emotional part of the day,” she reflected. “We both really enjoyed the ceremony. It was absolutely fantastic.”
But as the new Mr and Mrs Blaney left the church, the heavens opened. “It was dry all morning, but unfortunately then it poured as we were about to get into the horse and carriage!” Roisin said.
When the happy couple arrived at their Donegal wedding reception, they were greeted by their 260 guests and their threetier plain ivory cake, which featured beautiful ruffles.
Later the newlyweds stayed up dancing until 4am to Jimmy Buckley and DJ Mark Corrigan who provided the disco afterwards. “Our day was fantastic from start to finish,” the 27-year-old concluded. “We enjoyed every minute of it. It was the best day of our lives.”
