If you were looking for a themed wedding farye then you need have looked no further than Wicked Weddings, which took place in Ebrington Square in Derry/Londonderry on the 14th/15th of May this year.
Amazingly outrageous outfits from Irish designer Claire Garvey & House of Maina. But it wasn’t just the outrageous outfits you would of seen, there were traditional dresses too. Also creating a stir were pre-loved wedding dresses from 1 Stop Weddings in Derry. Each and everyone of these dresses were turning heads, some with a little more theatrical flourish than others.
Being asked to take part in an event such as this was an incredible honour and the fact that I was the leading hairstylist for their designs just made it even more special, I was over the moon. I was like a kid in a sweetie shop, two days with models from all over Northern Ireland & Ireland, I was in my creative element.
The Creative Jemz Team including my new make up artist Sevina FX rose to the challenge. Sevina, what can I say, this girl has hidden talent just like me, her hands do the magic. She can do anything from Bridal, Halloween, day to day make up and much more. She can skilfully transform you with make-up.
Between us, we created some amazing Hairstyles & Make Up for the two day event. Vertical Rolls with white flowers, afro chopstick curls with simple pink flowers and plaits with pearls, were only a few of the looks we created.
Back stage was very hectic but huge fun. I cannot lie, by the time it was over, I was exhausted and slept like a baby on the Sunday Night.
Nicole from North West Brides popped over on Saturday 14th May and was capturing the whole event, covering backstage including inside the mad purple and white circus tent while also meeting with wedding suppliers and venues. Her amazing photos from the event will follow.
Claire Garvey from Dublin was the lending designer for Wicked Weddings showcasing her ladies, men’s and children’s designs. These dresses were head turning and definitely stood out from the crowd, leaving a lasting impression for those who visited the event.
She has a creative, versatile mind, a bit like myself 😉. I met Claire in April when I travelled to Dublin to meet her in her amazing shop. I personally was lost for words! Her shop was a wonderland of vibrant colours, stocking everything from medieval to bridal designs, she also stocks fairy princess styles for little girls, all of which are handmade.
Claire Garvey designs will be featured in the North West Brides Autumn Magazine, so make sure you grab a copy when it’s out .
Keep an eye out for my next blog, when I will being going into more detail about Irish Designer Claire Garvey, her life and her designs.
